i recently asked a jw to explain the discrepancies in the following scriptures between 1 corinthians 10:3-4 and 1 corinthians 10:9 in their new world translation:.
first i presented the scripture as it is rendered in another modern day translation, as it is rendered in the original greek and as it is rendered in the latin vulgate:.
1 corinthians 10:3-4 they all ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink.
was that the look?

i love this quote and often find myself using it on the kids and my dog.
it is from cats and dogs and james earl jones doing the voice over.

i hope it's alright that i post a question, even though i've never had any affiliation with jw organization.
i have a friend who has been trying to convince me for years to study with jw.
i've been doing alot of research on jw and was just wondering if people here would be kind enough to tell me why they have decided to quit their affiliation with jw organization.
I was raised a JW, had a hard time making sense of what I was taught through childhood on, learned I couldn't discuss my doubts without facing negative consequences, didn't like how I was treated as a young adult, ran into some problems with elders when I wanted to get married, eloped, and gradually drifted away.
They didn't disfellowship me until years later, after my husband and I were in a serious car accident and were then divorced. Because I had stayed at my JW mother's to recuperate and my mother and I were making some small progress in healing our damaged relationship, the elders decided I was a spiritual danger to her and ganged up on me one evening in my apartment, giving me the third degree about my lifestyle and beliefs. They asked me to disassociate myself from the congregation. I wrote them a letter refusing and telling them I did not want to be cut off from my JW family and assuring them I was no danger to anyone.
They then disfellowshiped me without informing me themselves or giving me a chance to formally appeal the decision.
My mother died last year. She tried hard to shun me and her only biological grandchild while she was alive but didn't always succeed, so that left her feeling torn and guilty and always trying hard to "do the right thing". I was allowed to care for her the last 3 weeks of her life, and my JW family was quite nice, but now they are shunning me again for the most part. I also was not allowed to attend the dinner after my mother's funeral.

jesus had only 12 members attend and partake the last meal and memorial.there were no observers in the room.each disciple was given bread to eat and wine to drink.there is no mention of other people in the room who couldn't eat or drink the last meal.this was only for those who would partake of this meal.. why does the wts feel that observers need to be at this yearly event?
why can't the elders who(supposedly) have any 144,000 in their congregations, have a memorial with only these members?
if jesus wanted observers he would of had some at his last meal and requested that they be present from then on..
What a great observation and question!
Seems to me like a way of demonstrating and consolidating their (the GB's) power over the R&F in an alpha/omega dog sort of way.

what kind of stink would be going on if they were doing a show on mohammed instead of jesus?
I am guessing it would depend on the show. And, in case you weren't aware, Muslims believe it is important to accept and respect Jesus (alayhi salaam) as a prophet. We just don't believe that he died for humanity's sins, because we are all responsible for our own sins and God is quite capable of forgiving us without a sacrifice.

a poll is being taken by the british newspaper "the evening standard" as to whether or not britain should invest 100m in a new mosque for the olympics.
i have to admit i'm a little confused as to why folks would desire to have their tax money invested in paying for a religious building, given that religions are already tax free.
i don't see a similar offfer to build a new cathedral, synagogue or hindu temple, nor would i want to.
LT: there are some significant questions on both sides
Yes, there do seem to be.
I first heard about this a while back on BBC America news (I think), and they were interviewing various people on both sides of the question.
From what I understood, the land has already been purchased by the Muslim group that wants to build the mega-mosque. They just need permission to build. I don't know it they have the money to do so yet or not, but they may well be having to wait on that until they get the go-ahead to build.
I will be interested to see if you find any of the answers to the questions you listed, or if there are any concrete answers yet to be had.
